Working meeting of the AG “Art Production and Art Theory in the Context of Global Migration” (Ulmer Verein)
RELATIONALES DENKEN
PENSÉE DES RELATIONS
RELATIONAL THINKING
    JOURNÉES D’ÉTUDES
    23.–24.10.2025
DFK Paris
The question of relationality touches on art history on several levels and is becoming increasingly important in current debates on migration, ecology, and digitalization. Despite all the
diversity that characterizes these sometimes strongly divergent approaches, they are united by their criticism of binary and representational thought patterns and the associated hierarchies and
modes of authority. Understood as an intellectual and political project, relational thinking can pose a productive challenge for art history: it raises the question of research ethics and calls
for greater discursive and social plurality and justice.

On the occasion of the working meeting of the AG “Art Production and Art Theory in the Context of Global Migration” (Ulmer Verein), questions surrounding relational thinking will be discussed in
various thematic blocks. The internal working sessions will be accompanied by two public events in English: an artist talk with Vir Andres Hera, directed by Morgan Labar, and a lecture by Deborah
    Laks.

Organization: Lena Bader (DFK Paris), Birgit Hopfener (Carleton University/University of Freiburg), Mona Schieren (Bremen University of the Arts).
